Constantinople is one of history’s most enduring examples of strategic reinvention. In the fourth century, Rome was in decline after a century of tinkering with failing systems. The Romans made a bold decision to start anew, building a new capital on the Bosphorus that rose to become the world’s most advanced and prosperous city for the next thousand years.
